Historical Note
Barbara Bailey Hales (1924-2005) was born in Salt Lake City and received her degree in Foods and Nutrition/Bacteriology from Brigham Young University (BYU). She married Delbert Ray Hales in 1947 and proceeded to live in Philadelphia before moving back to Utah. When Delbert passed in 1969, Barbara returned to BYU to receive her Masters Degree (1973) where she also became Education Instructor. In 1976, Hales became a specialist with Utah's State Board of Education in Consumer and Homemaking Education.
Hales continued to participate through activity with Utah State Division of Child and Family Services, the Utah Governor's Commission on Women and Families, and the Utah Governor's Task Force for the Integration of Women in the Workforce. Additionally, Hales participated in the activity of multiple equality policies in Utah. Hales received awards and accolades such as the Distinguished Alumni Service Award from BYU, the Silver Apple from Utah State University, and the Development 20/20 Award.
