Historical Note

The Laramie Railroad Depot Association, established in 2009 following the transfer of the historic depot from the Laramie Plains Museum, is dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich railroad heritage of Albany County. The Association maintains and interprets the Laramie Railroad Depot, a 1924 structure built to replace the original Union Pacific Depot/Hotel destroyed by fire in 1917. Serving as a passenger hub for Union Pacific until 1971 and for Amtrak until 1983, the depot was gifted to the Laramie Plains Museum in 1985 and later listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. As the last remaining structure from Union Pacific’s significant presence in Laramie, the depot now serves the community as a museum and event space, hosting exhibitions and gatherings that celebrate the region’s enduring railroad legacy.
