Biographical Note
Henrietta Lillian Block was born Henrietta Levinson on February 10, 1897 in Hennepin County, Minnesota. Her father Soloman Levinson, age 42, was born in Sweden and her mother Rose / Rosa (nee Zimmerman), age 31, was born in Iowa. Her family moved to Seattle before she was three years old. Henrietta attended Seattle’s Daniel Bagley School and Lincoln High School. Henrietta married Frank Joseph Hirshberg on October 12, 1919, when she was 22 years old. They had three children together, Joseph Frank Hirshberg born February 16, 1922; Edward Joseph Hirshberg born September 26, 1923; and Henry Hirshberg born in 1926. Her husband Frank passed away on November 9, 1929, in Fort Benton, Montana, at the age of 40. Her son Henry passed away on February 9, 1930, in Seattle, Washington, at the age of 4. Henrietta married Robert A. Nathan in Seattle, Washington, on February 26, 1931, when she was 34 years old. Her husband Robert passed away on April 29, 1955, in Seattle, Washington, at the age of 71. They had been married 24 years. On March 10, 1958, Henrietta married Walter Block in Nevada, when she was 61 years old. Walter passed away on May 14, 1969, in Seattle, Washington, at the age of 78. Her son Edward Joseph passed away on July 10, 1973, in Mercer Island, Washington, at the age of 49. Henrietta died on October 6, 1989, in Seattle, Washington, at the age of 92.
