Biographical Note
Arthur Armstrong Denny was a pioneer, civic leader and public official in Seattle, Washington. He was born in Washington County Indiana in 1822. In 1851 Denny crossed the plains to Oregon with his family. Soon after their arrival in Portland, the Dennys joined others in a party of twelve which sailed to Elliott Bay. Landing at Alki Point, they established the first non-native settlement in what would become Seattle. A.A. Denny was the first postmaster in Seattle, a banker, merchant, member of the first Washington territorial legislature and a territorial delegate the U.S. Congress. He died in 1899.
