Biographical Note
Mr. Barrett was a log scaler in Bellingham before he joined the Puget Sound Log Scaling and Grading Bureau in 1921. As manager of the Bureau, he developed standards for log scaling, first on Puget Sound and then regionally, working with the federal government during World War II.

The Gordon S. Barrett papers primarily document standards for log scaling circa 1933-1957 and Barrett's work on his Official Log Scaling and Grading Rules for the Pacific Northwest. Includes correspondence, photographs, log grading rules and instructions, writings, reports, circulars, minutes, log record book.
