Biographical Note

The Dootson family lived in Snohomish County starting around 1900. James W. Dootson (1882-1948) was a local lawyer who graduated from the University of Washington in 1909 and married Mary Pauline Harsell (1883-1969), also a University of Washington student. They lived on Rockefeller Avenue in Everett and had four children, John, James, Pauline, and Richard. One of the children, John (1914-1985), who was called "Jack," went on to become a U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander and served as a Washington State representative. He was elected as a 38th District representative in 1941, 1951, 1963, and 1965. Their daughter, Pauline, served in WAVES during World War II.
