Arriving in Seattle in 1889, Louis Murdock was one of the first to explore the Olympic Mountains and take both black and white and color photographs of the Olympic Range. He is thought to be one of the first to successfully climb Mt. Duckabush circa 1899 and was a charter member of the Mountaineers, a Pacific Northwest outdoor club founded in 1906. During WWI he was head of the Kodak department at Lowman and Hanford, a Seattle stationary and printing company. He would continue taking photographs of the Olympic Mountains, Mt. Rainier, and Seattle gardens and scenery until his death in May of 1934.
