Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Charles William Pomeroy was born in Jackson County, Kansas on June 2, 1866. He graduated from Campbell University in 1887 and first worked as a teacher before studying law at Lawrence and in the office of attorney I. T. Price of Holton, Kansas. In 1889 Pomeroy moved to Great Falls, Montana where he opened his own practice and, in 1895, was appointed a judge for the district encompassing Flathead and Teton counties. He moved to Kalispell and, after his defeat for reelection in 1897, again operated his own private law practice in that city. Pomeroy was an enthusiastic Freemason and also a member of the Elks, the Ancient Order of United Workmen, and the Modern Woodmen of America. He married Estella Granger of Phillipsburg, Kansas, in 1889 and the couple had four children: Mabel, Velma, Mary, and Alice. Charles Pomeroy died on April 10, 1935.
