Historical Note

The Farmers Grain Cooperative was a regional agricultural cooperative marketing association established in 1938. It was established to assist members in northern Utah and much of Idaho with their agricultural pursuits, including the sale of wheat, barley, oats, and corn. Overseen by a board of directors, the cooperative operated its main regional elevator in Ogden, Utah, but also used other elevators in American Falls, Michaud, Malad, Grace, and Bancroft, Idaho. In 2003 the Scoular Company based out of Omaha, Nebraska, assumed operation of the Farmers Grain Cooperative.

West Cache Growers, Inc. was a local Cache Valley, Utah, cooperative associated with the Farmers Grain Cooperative. According to the Articles of Incorporation of the West Cache Growers, Inc., the organization elected one person to serve on the Farmers Grain Cooperative's board of directors as a representative stockholder and director.

Content Description

The majority of this collection consists of the business papers of the Farmers Grain Cooperative with some scattered records coming from the West Cache Growers, Inc. It includes meeting minutes, employee records, finance records, correspondence, merger information, loan documents, inspection results, crop production data, auditor's reports, and other business records. These documents generally date from 1988 to 1992, though several date from as far back as 1974. The collection is organized with respect to the order in which it was received from Mr. Rigby.
