Alexander Dingwall correspondence collection, 1724-1794

Alexander Dingwall (1748-1796) was a merchant in the hosiery business in Aberdeenshire. He worked as an apprentice for his uncle. He married Elizabeth Douglass in 1780 and had six children. The bound journal that makes up this collection was assembled by family historian Dingwall Fordyce in 1892 in Ontario, Canada. The inscription on the front blank addresses the journal to "John Drysdale Esq of Castellan House Dunbar," the great grandson of Alexander Dingwall. Dingwall Fordyce is also the author of "Family Record of the Name of Dingwall Fordyce," a family history which contains further biographical information on the Dingwall family.
