Biographical Note

Margaret Moore Latimer (1869-1954) was a civic leader and a prominent woman in Seattle and King County. In 1890, Margaret Moore married Norval Latimer, a Seattle businessman who was important in rebuilding the city after the Seattle Fire of 1889. Margaret and Norval had three children: Arthur, Chester, and Earl. Norval was the son of William G. Latimer, one of the early settlers who came across the Oregon Trail. He became a prominent realtor and, later in 1887, treasurer of King County. Margaret's father Elias Brittan Moore, and mother Judith Cox Moore, had three other children: Judith, Wally, Myrtle, and George. Margaret was friends with Anna Mary Chilberg, who was the wife of John Edward Chilberg and the daughter of W.V. Rinehart, a Malheur Indian Agent, a city council member, and mayor of Seattle.
