Biographical Note
Jack Steinberg was a Seattle attorney and owner of the law firm Steinberg & Steinberg. In 1929, he became president of Seattle Talmud Torah Hebrew School (renamed Seattle Hebrew Academy in 1969) and in 1939, was elected president of the Seattle division of the American Jewish Congress. He became the editor of The Washington Examiner in 1960. Jack Steinberg died on January 16, 2000 after practicing law for 61 years.

Photographs of the Seattle Talmud Torah Hebrew School. Jack Steinberg and his social activities including his installation as president of Talmud Torah. The photographs also document a Seattle visit of Haile Selassie and the first Pacific Northwest Convention of Zionist Organizations.
The photographs have accompanying notes with identification information.

Seattle Talmud Torah Hebrew School, Seattle, Washington
Seattle Talmud Torah Hebrew School was first established in the early 1890s. It was located at 17th Ave. and E. Alder Street in Seattle until the ground was broken on February 16, 1929 for a new permanent building at 25th and East Columbia Street. In 1950, the family of Charles Miller dedicated a playground to the school at 25th Avenue and Cherry Street in Seattle.

Seattle visit of Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia, 1954
On June 11 and 12, 1954, Haile Selassie, Emperor of Ethiopia visited Seattle with his son Prince Sahle Selassie and his granddaughter Princess Sebla Desta to attend the national convention for the Ancient Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. Jack Steinberg met with the Emperor and his granddaughter at the Olympic Hotel.
