Biographical Note

Dr. Edwin (Eddie) L. Peterson was born in Provo, Utah, in 1915. He served in the Army and Army Air Corps during WWII, attaining the rank of Major. Toward the end of the war, Edwin returned to the United States and served as an Information and Education officer. He worked on a Master's degree at the University of California, Berkeley and earned a Doctor of Philosphy degree from UCLA. He taught geography at Utah State University and helped found the Geography Department. Edwin died in Logan, Utah, on August 19, 1999. Edwin was married to Zetta Benson and was the nephew of Utah State University President Elmer G. Peterson. Edwin's father, Preston G. Peterson, played football for USU. Edwin played football and participated in track and field at USU.

The Edwin L. Peterson family photograph collection consists of 69 photos from Dr. Peterson's time in the Army during and after WWII, images of USU President Elmer G. Peterson, Spanish American War volunteers in Provo, LDS missionaries to the Shivwits Indians, a memorial program and photograph of Teddy Roosevelt, and USU football images for both Edwin and his father Preston.
