Historical Background

Oak Harbor is a city located on Whidbey Island, Washington. Oak Harbor's history dates back to the 1850s when it began as a small pioneer town. When the Irish arrived in the late 1850s, the town grew and developed a strong fishing and farm culture. Churches and schools arrived with the Dutch in the 1890s, and the first high school was built in 1906.
