Biographical Note
Stephen G. Boyden was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on 3 May 1940. As the son of John S. Boyden Sr., he was exposed to Indian law and tribal representation at an early age. Boyden received his J.D. degree from the University of Utah in 1967. Thereafter, he spent some years as a partner in the law form of Boyden, Kennedy, Romney and Howard. The firm represented the Ute, Hopi, Zuni, Goshute, and Kaibab-Paiute tribes. He was an instructor for the National American Indian Court Judges Association and taught at the Indian Police Academy in Brigham City, Utah. He has also served as assistant attorney general for the state of Utah and as director of the Utah School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration, which manages 3.5 million acres for the benefit of Utah's schools and other public institutions
