Historical Note
Central Washington University's Facilities Management Department was initially under the supervision of the Washington State Normal School Board of Trustees when the school opened in 1891. In 1910, a Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds was appointed and assumed responsibility for facilities management. During the 1920s a Business Manager replaced the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds. The Facilities Management Department was organized in 1986 and included the planning division.
Edison Hall was constructed in 1908 and from 1917 to 1938 housed the Edison School (named the Amanda Hebeler Elementary School in 1963), a laboratory elementary school. The innovative laboratory aspects of the school were nationally recognized, resulting in President George Black and Loren Sparks addressing the National Education Association conference in 1925. The school was directed by Amanda Hebeler from 1929 to 1956. In 1939, the school moved to Hebeler Hall. At the time of its demolition, Edison Hall housed Computer Services, the Credit Union, Personnel and Benefits, and several other offices.
