Summary
The University of Utah Alumni Association is governed by a Board of Directors which oversees the activities of the Student Alumni Association, the Young Alumni Association, the Emeritus Alumni Association, the Beehive Honor Society, as well as local alumni chapters throughout the United States and the world. The Alumni Association also sponsors homecomings, reunions, community relation projects, student recruiting, Founders' Day and other benefits for University of Utah alumni. This collection consists of administrative files, press clippings, and scrapbooks.

Historical Note

The University of Utah Alumni Association was founded in 1886 by a small group of Normal School students in order to promote general interest in education and bolster connections with the University and each other. In 1925, a nationwide system of alumni clubs was organized for the immediate purpose of raising funds for the original Union Building, now Kingsbury Hall. The Association's early objectives included establishing regional clubs, compiling a directory of all graduates, sponsoring class reunions, publishing an alumni magazine, and instituting an annual giving plan.

Content Description

The first series of this collection consists of correspondence, memoranda, minutes, and reports created in the performance of the Alumni Association's mission. Specific subjects covered in this section include the board of directors, class reunions, the Emeritus Alumni Club, Founders' Day, and homecoming events sponsored by the Alumni Association. Also included in this series is a constitution from the normal class of 1895. The second series is comprised of thirteen binders containing press clippings and other supplemental material pertaining to Alumni Association activities dating from 1957 to 1980. The third series consist of three regular sized scrapbooks and eight oversized scrapbooks. Topics covered include the class of 1906, the Emeritus Alumni Association, the Alumni House, alumni reunions, and foreign students. The series also contains an Alumni House guest sign-in book dating from 1970-1980.

This collection is arranged in three series: 1. Alumni Association Administrative Files; 2. Press Clippings: 3. Alumni Association Scrapbooks and Guest Book. The records are arranged both alphabetically and chronologically.

Acquisition Information

These records came from records center accessions 97-468, 97-487, 10-019, and three seperate groups of records brought directly to the archives in the respective years 2002, 2010, and 2013.
