Historical Note
Actor James Monks played supporting roles on stage and occasionally the screen. His first Broadway appearance was in George Abbott's 1936 production "Brother Rat." In 1941, he made his feature film debut playing Owen Morgan in John Ford's "How Green Was My Valley." Monks appeared in one more film and then focused on his stage career until the mid '50s, when he retired to become a model. In 1975, he returned to play a small role in "The Man Who Would Not Die."

The collection contains scrapbooks, theater and movie stills, photographs of James Monks, newspaper clippings, and programs regarding his work as an actor in the theater and on screen from the 1930s-1950s and then as a model in the 1950s-1980s.
