Historical Background

The Yakima and Pacific Coast Railroad operated from 1890 to 1892, and ran from Chehalis to South Bend, Washington. United Railroads of Washington bought the company in 1892, and they were subsequently bought by Northern Pacific Railway Company in 1898.

Content Description

Photographs documenting the construction of the Yakima and Pacific Coast Railroad from Chehalis to South Bend sometime between 1890 and 1892. Shows construction and survey crews, landscape grading, and construction equipment. The photographs were possibly made by the Partridge Brothers (Edward J. Partridge and William H. Partridge) because there is a sticker on the front inside album cover that says "Partridge Photo Supplies" and the photographs are similar in style to other known Partridge Brothers photographs.
