Biographical Note

Wallace S. Brooke (b.1914) earned his Ph.D. from Oxford University, England, in 1940. He attended John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1942, and came to Salt Lake City in 1943 as a result of Dr. Phillip Price, a respected professor of surgery at the University of Utah. Brooke became the first chief resident of surgery for Price. On 3 November 1943, Brooke married Josephine Critchlow. Brooke also served as the president of the Salt Lake Surgical Society in 1960.

The Wallace S. Brooke papers (1943-1990) contain correspondence, a history, and an article regarding the Salt Lake Surgical Society in Salt Lake City, Utah. The majority of the collection contains histories written by Brooke on the Salt Lake Surgical Society, the University of Utah Hospital, and a history on Phillip B. Price, which was written by Kenneth B. Castleton.
