Biographical Note

Mrs. Caston, now 94 years old, came to Seattle in 1911 with her husband Joseph and her children. He had been a stevedore in Istanbul, and he worked in Seattle for a time before returning for his family. He worked first as a stevedore in Seattle, and then operated a restaurant, first one at 12th and Jackson and a later one on First Ave. Her brother Isaac Akrish was the cook. Her husband later had a fruit business in the public market. He was an early president of Sephardic Bikur Cholim and helped in establishing the synagogue at 20th and Fir. He died at an early age.
