Biographical Note

Clifford Wright (1919-1999) was an American and Danish artist. He studied art at the Cornish School in Seattle, and later exhibited his work at the Seattle Art Museum and the Museum of Modern Art. He was married to Elsa Gress, a prominent Danish author. Detailed Description of the Collection

 

  • Accession No. 3876-001: Clifford Wright papers, 1938-1987

    .14 cubic foot

    Scope and Content: Writings, writings of others, letters (xerox copies), and publications.

    Writings include an autobiographical piece, and writings about and fragments by Mark Tobey, a friend of Wright. Letters are from Seattle artist friends. One Tobey writings, "Cymbals," is the original corrected typescript of the carbon in the Tobey papers, (6/33). The Clifford Wright typescript "Mark Tobey - old master, eternal self-renewer" is also in the Tobey papers (10/5).
