Historical Note

The office of Student Affairs and Services deals with the social, cultural, and recreational needs of students, including the administration of dormitories and financial aid. Prior to 1973, the office was known as the Dean of Students. In 1973 the name was changed to Student Affairs. In 1978 the current name of Student Affairs and Services was adopted. During the period covered by these records, Virginia P. Frobes (1965-1970) and Michael J. Patton (1970-1971) served as Dean of Students. Franklin L. McKean (1973-1974) and L. Jackson Newell (1974-1978) served as Dean of Student Affairs, with Franklin L. McKean becoming Dean of Student Affairs and Services in 1978.
