Historical Note

Oswald Berg, Jr. was a Bozeman, Montana architect and son of a Meagher County rancher. Berg attended Washington State College and served as an architect in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He began professional practice in Bozeman in 1949, doing business until 1983 under the corporate names of O. Berg Jr. and Associates, BGS Architects, and Berg-Grabow and Partners. Berg also served as president of the Bozeman Chamber of Commerce in 1969. He designed many buildings in Montana and neighboring states, including residences, schools, and businesses.

Content Description

The Oswald Berg architectural drawings include plans for buildings designed by Oswald Berg or his architectural firms. Most of the buildings are located towns across Montana including Alder, Belgrade, Bozeman, Colstrip, Ennis, Fort Harrison, Gallatin Gateway, Glendive, Livingston, Philipsburg, Shelby, Sunburst, and Three Forks. Other locations are Cody, Mammoth, and Thermopolis, Wyoming, and Boardman, Oregon. Plans include multiple drawings for each building that are grouped in sets. Several sets include item-level inventories, which include titles for each drawing. Item numbers are derived from the number printed on the drawing by the architectural firm, although many are unnumbered.
