Historical Background

The collection inludes footage that is possibly of Frank Hawks, a nationally recognized aviator, who was flying the "Texaco One," a custom built Ford Trimotor (NC3443), sponsored by Texaco Oil's newly formed aviation division. Hawks flew the plane on a cross-country promotional tour in 1928. Hawks embarked on the tour which he described, in his autobiography "Speed", "In the course [of the tour]. I visited 175 cities, carried 7,200 passengers, and did 56,000 miles of cross-country flying. All of this without a mishap to plane and passengers."
