Historical Note
Ernest Veuve was born in New Castle, Switzerland, in 1843 and came to the U.S. in 1864. Veuve served under Sherman during his march to the sea. He also received a Medal of Honor for his service in the Moddock Indian war in Texas, 1875. In 1877, Ernest Veuve was stationed at Ft. Missoula, Montana, as a quartermaster sergeant. His occupation was listed as coppersmith. He was discharged from service in 1880 and married Anna McCarthy in Missoula the same year. The Veuves had a daughter, Alina Brisbin. Ernest Veuve died on June 17, 1916 in Missoula.
Anna Veuve was born in 1846 in County Cork, Ireland. She came to the U.S. with her parents in 1850 and in 1867, moved to Washington, D.C. She came to Missoula in 1878 to live with her sister, Margaret McCauley. Anna Veuve died on February 8, 1927, in Missoula.

Anna Veuve's widow's pension application to the U.S. Army includes a notice of promotion, a Declaration for Original Pension, a written deposition from the medical doctor who attended Ernest Veuve at death, a Declaration for Widow's Pension from the Indian Wars, a military record request, a marriage record from St. Francis Xavier, an affidavit from Anne Veuve containing biographical information, and a notice of pension termination.
