Historical Note
The Washington State Dairymen's Federation originated in 1894, known as Washington State Dairymen's Association when it was at that time. In 1927, the Association was reorganized and by-laws drawn up. Expressed objectives of the Association were, in addition to promoting the dairy industry, to influence legislation, continue education about dairy production, assist in cooperative marketing, and unify statewide dairy interests.
In 1957 the Association again underwent major reorganization and was renamed the Washington State Dairymen's Federation. New articles of incorporation were drawn up. These stressed objectives such as improved herd health conditions; they also provided that the Federation was to be non-profit and cooperative in character for the mutual benefit of its members.

The records of Washington State Dairymen's Federation are divided into five series: Organizational Records, Promotional and Publications, Memberships, Finance and Meetings. All series are arranged chronologically except the Membership series, which is arranged alphabetically and which is subdivided into A) Membership List and B) Members' Annual Dues.
