Content DescriptionReturn to Top

The Virginia Stumbough Papers document Stumbough's writing career and date from 1930 to 1998. Materials consist of manuscript drafts, correspondence, newspaper articles, research notes, bibliographies, brochures, and records of her publication submissions and sales.

The collection features manuscript materials for published and unpublished articles, stories, books, poems, and filmstrip scripts. Stumbough wrote for children and adult audiences on a range of topics including science and nature, history, arts and crafts, grief, spirituality and the occult. Additionally there is an emphasis on biographical and autobiographical writing in her work.

The collection includes Stumbough's research files and her own writings on extra sensory perception for both adults and children. These files demonstrate an interest in the work of Rudolf Steiner and contain notes, manuscripts, clippings, and correspondence with the Parapsychological Association of America, the American Society for Psychical Research, the Anthroposophical Society in America, and with renowned psychic Irene F. Hughes.

Additionally the collection contains photocopies of correspondence from Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Albert Schweitzer and articles regarding his work and Stumbough's annual donation of bars of soap to Schweitzer's children's hospital in Africa between 1949 and the mid 1950s.

Forms part of the Idaho Writers Archive.
