Historical Note

The Women's International League for Peace and Freedom is an international women's organization devoted to furthering the causes of peace and justice. Women's International League for Peace and Freedom was founded in 1915. Local branches exist to support the objectives of the National Board. The Seattle Branch was established in 1935. Major emphasis is placed on promoting nonviolent solutions to world conflict, world disarmament, women's rights, and racial and economic justice.

Contains records of the Seattle branch of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, including correspondence, minutes, subject files, newsletters, speeches and writings, nominations, photographs, slides, exhibit material, video cassettes, audio cassettes, ephemera and scrapbooks, 1940-2000. Also includes records of Seattle Women Act for Peace, 1973-1995.
