Sidney Stevens Implement Company records, 1890-1915

boxes 1 through 8 contain "General Correspondence. Includes inquires, carbons of collection notes, correspondence with wholesale houses, letters to and from the branch houses.

Includes carbons of letters asking payment and replies from purchasers regarding payment of debts to the Company. Similiar correspondence was earlier filed under the heading "General Correspondence."

boxes 10 through 14 contain "Invoices and Receipts." As the designation implies these are invoices and receipts for purchases by the Logan Branch directly from wholesale suppliers and to and from the Ogden Office and the various branch stores. Also included are receipts for payments of local bills--electricity, telephone, etc.

boxes 15 through 26 contain "Ogden Letters." These are usually letters of instruction or inquiry from the main office to the manager of the Logan Branch (and less often carbons of letters from Logan to Ogden). The early letters also contain shipping lists of material sent from Ogden to Logan, a form later called "Ogden Transfer Invoices" (see also Book 25).

boxes 27 and 28 contain "Note Receipts." Receipts indicate Ogden numbers given to the Notes when forwarded to the Main Office by the Logan branch.

boxes 29 through 33 contain "Preston Letters, including letters from agents E. T. Dobson (1892), Wilford Chatterton (1892-98), James Meikle (1895-1902), letters from the Preston Branch to Logan, including Preston Transfer Invoices. Also included are letters from company agents who canvassed northern Cache Valley, Malad Valley, Marsh Valley, and Gentile Valley for Sidney Stevens Implement Company.

box 34 contains "Montpelier Letters," correspondence from the Montpelier Branch with Logan. Also included are letters of William A. Norton (1898), resident agent at McCammon, and George H. Fisher (1905-1906), traveling agent in the Bear Lake, Bear River, and Cache Valleys.

boxes 35 through 43 contains "Ogden Transfer Invoices," shipping lists with prices and serial numbers of stock forwarded from Ogden headquarters to the Logan Branch (see also Book 25).

box 45 contains "Stock Orders," orders for material from the warehouses at the Ogden headquarters.

boxes 46 and 47 contain "Logan Transfer Invoices," stock shipped from Logan to the other branches.

Books 17 and 18 contain "Transfer Invoices": Stock shipped from the Logan Branch to the other branches or to Ogden.

Books 19 through 21 are "Journal Daybooks," daily income and expenses of the Logan Branch.

(largely letters from Farley, manager at Logan, to Sidney Stevens in Ogden). Books 22 and 23 are labeled "Remittance Books," but they seem to have combined the functions of daybooks and letterbooks. The designation seems to come from the fact that they contain account totals forwarded from Logan to Ogden.
