Cable 8 Productions is the student-run television station at Washington State University, under the umbrella of the Edward R. Murrow College of Communications. A registered campus student organization, Cable 8 Productions was created in 1986 by Professor W. Neal Robinson to allow students to gain experience at all levels of the creative process, including show design, producing, directing, hosting, camera work, and promotion. The first two programs offered by Cable 8 Productions were Live at 8 and Video Underground, both of which can be found in this collection.

The collection consists of U-matic tapes containing student-created television programming from Washington State University’s Cable 8 Productions, spanning the period from Spring 1989-Spring 1997. Most tapes fall into one of three major genres: movie or music review programs, WSU sports programs, or campus issues/student government programs. By far the most extensive set of programs within the collection is Video Underground, a music review show still actively produced by Cable 8 Productions as of 2016.

Arrangement
The collection is organized alphabetically by show title, and then chronologically by season and episode number within each show. The exception to this is the collection of miscellaneous material which comes at the end of the collection, which is reserved for programs for which we possess only a single tape, most often a pilot or first episode.
