Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Amy Byrd Jones (1906-1997) was the daughter of Royal Jones, a logger and a hauler, and Ethel Jones, an active volunteer and organizer for the Salvation Army in Centralia, Washington and later South Boise, Idaho.
Jones joined the Salvation Army in 1923 as a volunteer in Centralia and Lewis County, Washington, and then eventually became a cadet. She was accepted to attend the Western Territorial Training College in San Francisco, California in 1925. She was commissioned as a Captain in 1926 and married fellow Salvation Army Captain John Marion Allen in 1928. They later organized and served as ministering Pastor and wife for the City Church in Klamath Falls, Oregon, before moving to California after World War II.
