Historical Note

Historically, and for obvious reasons, the agriculture programs at Washington State University have been assigned much of the property owned by the university. Generally speaking this was the area that came to be bounded on the west by Stadium Way and on the east by Airport Road. A significant portion of the original agricultural area began to be displaced by general campus buildings in the 1940s. By 1960, service buildings, apartments, and other facilities occupied the area immediately to the east of Stadium Way, and projections for future development were being made. As a result the agricultural programs began to move outward to the east part of the original college farm and to locations several miles from the campus.

In about 1966, files specifically concerned with land, buildings and space were developed in the College of Agriculture. These files appear to have been the responsibility of the Director of Resident Instruction.

Records concerning the facilities used by the College of Agriculture consist of correspondence, memoranda, reports, drawings and maps. The records concern most aspects of land and building use, including planning and proposals but excluding construction projects.

Acquisition Information

A summary of the accession records of the Washington State University Libraries indicates that these records were transferred to the Libraries in 1985 (UA1985-13) along with records of that emanated from the Office of the Director of Resident Instruction. The accession recording form has been lost.
