Biographical NoteReturn to Top
William McLane (1819-1906), born in Butler County, PA, was an early homesteader on Eld Inlet in Thurston County, WA. He was a farmer and an active leader in commercial and civic enterprises, including service in the Territorial Legislature as a member, and as speaker of the house. Living on his homestead for over fifty years, he donated land and funds for schools, churches, and a cemetery in his community. Grace Ruby (Swan) Austin, the compiler and editor of this volume, is his great-granddaughter.
