The Yellowstone Travel Diary describes a girl's Western trip with her father and aunt. They begin on July 17, 1915 by boarding the train at Aurora, Illinois. The family's travels took them through St. Paul, Medora, Livingston, Yellowstone National Park, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Salt Lake and Denver before returning to Chicago. Six days of their trip were spent at Yellowstone National Park, from July 19-24, touring by stagecoach from Mammoth to Lake Yellowstone along the standard tour route. Descriptions of park features and fellow travelers are brief. Of the greatest interest to her were the geyser features which she took many opportunities to see. By staying at the Mammoth Hotel, the Fountain Hotel, the Lake Hotel, the Canyon Hotel and the Old Faithful Inn, she was able to attend many dances with both employees of the concessions and the soldiers stationed at Mammoth. After visiting Yellowstone National Park, the author took in the sights of the San Francisco World's Fair celebrating the opening of the Panama Canal and also visited Yosemite National Park.
