Historical NoteReturn to Top

Claude Simpson graduated from Washington State College in 1941 before going on to teach high school. He returned to WSC in 1943 and became the first admissions director in 1946. Eventually, Simpson also became registrar and held both positions until his retirement in 1970.

The African Scholarship Program of American Universities (ASPAU) was a program which tested and interviewed candidates from various African countries and, upon selecting them, placed them at various universities across the United States. In 1963-1964, Claude Simpson was invited by the ASPAU to travel to Africa as a member of the selection committee.
