Biographical Note

Don H. Palmer, UW class of 1899, was an early physician in Seattle and later practiced with his son Rex B. Palmer. Both served as physicians to UW sports teams. They invented several medical devices, including a knee brace. They also practiced plastic surgery.

Detailed Description of the Collection

 

  • Accession No. 4385-001: Palmer family papers, circa 1899-1960 (bulk 1925-1960)

    3 boxes; 3 oversize flat boxes; 1 tube

    Scope and Content: Letters, writings, financial records, Husky sports memorabilia, plans, scrapbook, photographs, ephemera. Husky memorabilia includes athletic medals, ca. 1899-1900; framed photograph of Frosty, UW mascot 1933; sideline pass ribbon for Rose Bowl game, 1937; and 2 metal tickets to the original UW stadium, 1920.

    Some material represents Don Palmer's recreational interests of fishing and hunting. The collection is fragmentary; it came from the longtime family home in south Seattle.

    Restrictions on Access: Open to all users.

    Restrictions on Use: Rights of Palmer family members transferred to the Libraries.

    5.50 cubic feet (7 boxes)

    Scope and Content: Patient account book (ca. 1905), ephemera, postcards, and memorabilia of a Seattle family of physicians. Bulk of accession is comprised of records of the San Juan Farm Association, a duck hunting club of Seattle businessmen who owned land on a spit near Dungeness, Washington on the Olympic Peninsula ca. 1933-1982.

    Restrictions on Access: Open to all users.

    Restrictions on Use: Creator's literary rights transferred to the University of Washington Libraries.
