Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Neal Randolph Fosseen was born in Yakima, Washington, November 27, 1908, son of Arthur and Florence Fosseen. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1930 and married Helen Witherspoon September 26, 1936; the couple had two sons. He was a laborer, vice-president and president of Washington Brick, Lime and Sewer Company, 1923-1938. He served as Lieutenant Colonel in the Marine Corps during World War II. He was active in business and civic activities in Spokane, Washington as revealed in these papers, most of which are dated 1958-1961.

He was a vice-president and director of the Old National Bank, Spokane and was a stockholder or director or otherwise affiliated with a wide variety of business enterprises; including Spokane Industrial Park, Securities Intermountain, Cascade Capital Corporation, Franco Railroad Contracting Company, Inland Empire Industrial Research, Manufacturers Acceptance Corporation, Spokane Enterprises, Inc., and Trent Avenue Machinery. His civic activities include Mayor of Spokane, Past-President and member of the Advisory Board of the Association of Washington Industries, President of the Executive Board of the Inland Empire Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Member of the Spokane Chamber of Commerce Calling Committee, Regent for Gonzaga University, Regional County vice-president of the Inland Empire Waterways Association, Field Advisor, Region XIII for the Small Business Administration, member of the Board of Directors of the Spokane Lilac Festival Association, as well as being active in the United Crusade of Spokane County.

Acquisition Information

The civic and business papers of Mr. Fosseen, businessman, banker and Mayor of Spokane, Washington, were a gift from Mr. Fosseen, July, 1972. Additional papers dealing with the 1974 Spokane Exposition were given by Mr. Fosseen in May of 1973.
