Content DescriptionReturn to Top

The Klemgard 16mm films document life in the Palouse region (primarily Whitman County, Washington) in the decade before World War II. They look at agriculture, family life, and vacation travel. The descriptions of individual reels given below were created by IMS shortly after receiving the films. It is likely that the materials came from the family of E. Neal Klemgard (MASC received papers from his family as accessions MS79-43 and MS83-29), but this is not a certainty.

The collection consists of eight amateur-produced 16 millimeter silent films, housed in six canisters. All eight films have been digitized for preservation purposes; these are not available online but are held in MASC's digital archives in mpeg4 format.

Arrangement

The materials are organized in a single series, retaining the arrangement given them when they were received at MMR/IMS.

Acquisition Information

The Klemgard 16mm films were donated to the Washington State University (WSU) Instructional Media Services (IMS) department at some point prior to 1992. They were moved to WSU's Manuscripts, Archives, and Special Collections in summer of 2010 and subsequently accessioned as MS2011-23.

Processing Note

This collection was processed in May 2011 by University Archivist Mark O'English.

Separated Materials

Four films which were originally part of the collection were copies of commercially produced materials; as these were under copyright and were unrelated to the other materials, they were offered back to the WSU Libraries' Media, Materials, and Reserves (MMR).
