Content DescriptionReturn to Top

Typescript copy of Sacred History of the Old Testament (Svyashhennaya istoriya Vethogo Zaveta), produced during the era of Communist persecution of Christians in the Soviet Union. The 787-page Russian-language typescript is an example of samizdat (“self-published”) literature, a form of dissident activity in Eastern Bloc countries which allowed individuals to evade censorship laws by manually copying censored materials and circulating them in secret.
