Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Meta Buttnick was a volunteer for and member of the Jewish Archives Committee of the Washington State Jewish Historical Society. She was born in Fairbanks in 1913, attended Trinity College in Dublin, and settled permanently in Seattle in 1939. She was a long time member of Bikur Cholim, was a founding member and first president of Avivah Chapter of the Mizrachi Women's Organization, founding member in 1947 of the Hebrew Academy's day school, a charter member of the Washington State Jewish Historical Society. She has also done volunteer work for the Jewish Community center, and Jewish Federation and Council of Greater Seattle. She was married to Harry Buttnick and Jacob Kaplan.

Scope and Content: This collection contains a selection of Meta Buttnick's personal and professional papers. Included are ephemera and histories of Seattle area synagogues and Jewish organizations; Buttnick's research materials, correspondence, and articles; newspapers clippings; transcripts from various interviews conducted by Buttnick; and miscellaneous materials related to the Jewish community in Seattle.
Includes recordings of Meta Buttnick's interviews (according to tape labels) with Chazan Chaim Gottlieb, 1987; Chazan Gottlieb and Shlomo Gortler, 1975; Robert J. Block, 1992; and a member of the Grunbaum family (no date indicated). There are also what appear to be 2 copies of a commemorative recording issued to celebrate Chazan Chaim Gottlieb's 36 years of service to Bikur Cholim-Machzikay Hadath congregation at the 1993 Annual Banquet.
