Historical Note

June Rose Harwood was born in 1904 to James Taylor and Harriet Richards Harwood in Paris, France. She received a bachelor's degree from the University of Utah in 1926 and married Kyle Lyon in March of the same year. They traveled extensively then made their home in California. Both were interested in education and Kyle made it his career. June and Kyle were divorced in 1939. She married Mac McKinnon in 1941, divorced him in 1944, and then married Frank Spring in 1945. June taught school briefly at East High School, wrote poetry, sketched, and kept extensive diaries. However, she was hindered by physical illness all her life and never achieved the fame her father and sister knew.
