This collection consists of the packet of materials given to Nez Perce National Historic Trail Symposium attendees in 1995. It includes a schedule of the symposium, information about the Trail, travel and lodging information, and drafts of guide material for the Nez Perce National Historic Trail.

Historical NoteReturn to Top

The Nez Perce National Historic Trail was created in 1986 with an Advisory Committee tasked with advising the United States Department of Agriculture on the planning, development, and management of the Trail. In 1991, the Nez Perce National Historic Trail Foundation replaced the original Advisory Committee for the National Historic Trail and took on the tasks of sponsoring historic preservation, education, and recognition of the Nez Perce Trail. The 1995 Symposium was the first such symposium and was sponsored by the Foundation, the Forest Service, the Nez Perce National Historical Park, and the Nez Perce Tribe. As of 2018, the Foundation continues to operate under the name Nez Perce Trail Foundation, which was adopted in 2003.
