Curtiss Airship
Charles K. Hamilton, nicknamed the "Crazy Man of the Air," performed a series of aviation demonstrations from March 11-13, 1910 at the Meadows Racetrack just south of the center of Seattle, part of what is now the Boeing airfield. His flight on March 11 was the first in Washington State. During this series of demonstrations, he crashed his CurtissReims Racerinto a pond at the track. Suffering only minor injuries, Hamilton returned to the track on that Monday, March 14th to perform two free air shows. He then went to Tacoma, WA, where he was hired by Tallman-Thompson Co., Inc. to take a birds-eye photo of the city. Tallman-Thompson, located at 111 So. 10th, was the owner of Lakewood Subdivisions. The company owned 3,000 lots in Lakewood, being sold at $125 each and up. The company had 5,000 18x24 copies of the aerial view printed up and gave them away as promotion. Hamilton then made his way to Vancouver, BC, and later Spokane, WA, where he performed another series of aviation demonstrations from April 1-3. He ended his tour of the Northwest with a series of demonstrations on Mercer Island in early April.
