Biographical Note
Aubrey R. Watzek (1888-1973) was a philanthropist, lawyer, and lumberman. He moved to Portland, Oregon, in 1912 and practiced law for five years before becoming involved with the lumber business in 1919. He was a member of the Oregon Board of Forestry and the Oregon Board of Higher Education. He served as director of the U.S. National Bank of Oregon for 23 years and director of the Library Association of Portland for 34 years. He was involved in the Portland Area Council of Boy Scouts, Portland Art Association, Oregon Historical Society, and many other organizations. Watzek was awarded the honor of Portland First Citizen in 1965.
