Historical Note

Robert Ames Bennet (1870-1954) was a writer from Colorado. Early in his career Bennet wrote short stories, drama scripts, and novels for a variety of genres. During this time period he sometimes wrote under the pen name Lee Robinet. By the 1930s Bennet became primarily a western writer, penning such stories as “Caught in the Wild,” “Cowboy Caballero,” and “Guns on the Rio Grande.”

The collection focuses on Robert Ames Bennet’s literary career. It contains notes, reference materials, draft manuscripts, and published works spanning from 1888-1964. The bulk of the materials concern his western writings from the 1920s and 1930s. Other materials include photoplay (silent film) and theater play drafts, and early 20th century historical and science fiction work.
