Content DescriptionReturn to Top

This collection consists of photocopied correspondence, memoranda, and images that document the nature, aims, and methods of the American and Canadian War Art Programs during the Second World War. Also available are handwritten research notes, created circa 1989-90 by Canadian historian Molly Ungar at the National Archives in Washington, D.C., and Ottawa. The primary focus is on how the programs were organized; in the case of the U.S. program, the documents also address the issue of funding. Other aspects dealt with are the artists and how they were chosen, artworks produced, and obstacles encountered.
