Historical NoteReturn to Top
Joseph M. Gwinn was an engineer and designer of light transport aircraft used for flight instruction. After serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp and the 27th Aero Squadron in World War I, Gwinn became an assistant chief engineer for the Galludet Aircraft Corporation in 1920. In 1923, he began a career at the Consolidated Aircraft Corporation as an engineer and later a chief product engineer. After designing the two-control Gwinn Aircar, he became president of the Gwinn Aircar Company in 1935.
