Biographical Note

Arnold (Arnie) Ferrin was a four year All-American who played for the University of Utah's basketball team from 1943-1948. He was first given the All-American award his freshman year and proceeded to win the University of Utah's first National Basketball championship in 1944 through the first overtime in NCAA history. After playing for the Utes, Ferrin continued to win championships with the then Minneapolis Lakers who are now the Los Angeles Lakers. Besides basketball, Ferrin also continued to succeed in receiving various golfing awards. Ferrin later became the General Manger of the Utes Basketball team then continued to become the athletic director. Additionally, Ferrin was inducted into the National Collegiate Hall of Fame in 2008.

This collection contains scrapbooks documenting Arnie Ferrin's athletic career with the University of Utah and with Minneapolis. The scrapbooks contain newspaper clippings, photos, pictures, letters, awards, and advertisements. Also included are two oversize framed commemorative pieces.

    • Description: Scrapbook 1

      This scrapbook mainly documents Ferrin's career playing for the University of Utah Redskins with some periodicals documenting Ferrin's career playing for the Minnesota Lakers along with his golfing career.

      This scrapbook contains mostly periodicals and pictures from the 1944 Utah Basketball Championship and also documents Ferrin with the Minneapolis Lakers and a periodical noting Ferrin as the University of Utah's Athletic Director in 1979.
