Biographical Note

Dr. Guy Roger Spencer was born on June 22, 1916 in Whiting, Kansas and became interested in veterinary medicine as a result of the years he spent on the family farm. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Kansas State College in 1940 and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in 1949. In 1950 he came to Washington State University as a Professor and as Acting Chairman of the Department of Hygiene and Pathology. The next year he became Chairman of that department, which changed its name in 1954 to the Department of Veterinary Pathology. During the 1977-1978 school year Dr. Spencer retired to become Professor Emeritus of Veterinary Microbiology and Pathology (the two departments merged in 1976).
